Rep. Anthony C. Beilenson (D-Los Angeles) has been named one of 18 members of Congress who will be available to consult with President Bush on developments in the Persian Gulf crisis after Congress adjourns this month.

House Speaker Thomas S. Foley (D-Wash.) and Senate Majority Leader George J. Mitchell (D-Me.) announced their decision to form the advisory group “to facilitate the exercise of Congress’ constitutional authorities with respect to war powers.”

Beilenson, who is chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, said he agrees that continued consultation with Congress is necessary.
