COLLEGE FOOTBALL REPORT / WEEKDAY UPDATE : AROUND THE NATION : Iowa State Gets No Break in Schedule
You have to wonder what Iowa State did to get the Big Eight Conference schedulemaker so upset.
After playing defending conference champion Colorado and perennial contender Oklahoma the past two weeks, the Cyclones on Saturday face No. 4 Nebraska, (7-0) and owner of some of the fanciest statistics in the country.
The Cornhuskers lead the nation in total defense and scoring defense, and are No. 2 in rushing offense and scoring. What’s more, they’re likely to be in an unpleasant mood after seeing two teams--Auburn and Notre Dame--skip past them in the poll. A 31-3 pasting of Oklahoma State last week made little impact on the voters, who left Nebraska fourth.
After watching their game films Iowa State Coach Jim Walden said, “They’re big and strong and they like killing people.”
