Hollywood Ethics

Share

The seminar “Ethics in the Film Business” must have been what the old Hollywood would have called a “laff riot” (“A Dialogue on Film Industry Ethics,” Oct. 20).

One of the panelists was Benjamin Stein, attorney and writer--the same Ben Stein who was a defendant in a 1987 legal action filed by Joan Rivers.

In a GQ magazine article written under a pseudonym, Stein alleged he knew Rivers personally and had heard her joke about her late husband, a victim of suicide. Later Stein admitted he had never met Rivers and he settled the lawsuit out of court.

Ben Stein a serious participant in an ethics discussion? About as much as Rep. Dana Rohrabacher in a gathering of respected art critics.
