The Sidelines : Policeman Fires on Soccer Fans
A South African police officer, angered by the outcome of a penalty shoot-out at a local soccer match, pulled out his gun and shot and wounded three spectators, police said today.
A spokesman said the policeman, who was alleged to have been drunk, fired a salvo of shots in the last moments of an amateur match in this Indian Ocean city when the team he supported failed to score during a sudden-death shoot-out.
The officer badly wounded three spectators. He was being held on a charge of attempted murder, the spokesman said.
