LOCAL : Truck Acid Spill Snarls Traffic
A truck spilled about 75 gallons of swimming pool chemicals on an East Los Angeles freeway transition road today, snarling the morning commute, authorities said.
In all, 28 plastic containers filled with the acid tumbled onto the transition road of the southbound Golden State Freeway to the eastbound Pomona Freeway and southbound Santa Ana Freeway, CHP Officer Paul Stein said.
No injuries were reported in the 6:10 a.m. mishap, but concern about fumes also forced the closure of the transition from the southbound Hollywood to the eastbound Pomona Freeway. Stein said an improperly latched trailer door on the Saugus-based HASA Inc. truck apparently popped open.
