8th-Grader, Women Voters League Look at the Future of Bonelli Park

Share

The League of Women Voters of the East San Gabriel Valley urges people concerned about the future of Bonelli Park to write to Jim Parks, County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation, 433 S. Vermont Ave., Los Angeles 91120, and to all of the members of the Board of Supervisors.

An Environmental Impact Report is again being prepared by the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation, this time to rationalize the further commercial development of Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas.

The proposed development would take the most valuable natural areas of the park, more than tripling the area of the Raging Waters Amusement Park and parking areas and making it into a year-round amusement park, building a 150-room hotel and 80-unit motel complex and a 25,000 square foot restaurant and lounge (in a native area where the park’s great blue herons nest.)

Comments received before the Nov. 24 deadline will become part of the document sent to the Board of Supervisors when they are ready to vote on the plan. Letters to the supervisors and to area cities will be helpful after that time.

Taxpayers in years past supported the rejuvenation of many degraded areas of what was called Puddingstone Park when the county took it over from the state. This investment needs to be protected to better serve future residents whose homes are rapidly blanketing the hills and valleys.
