Santa Monica : 3 Groups to Study Homeless

Share

Step Up On Second, the River Community and the RAND Corp. will conduct a three-year study of homeless adults in Los Angeles County who have both a serious mental illness and a history of alcohol and/or drug abuse.

The $3.6-million study, funded with a grant by the Department of Health and Human Services, will compare the effectiveness of residential and non-residential treatment for these homeless adults.

Step Up On Second, a Santa Monica-based socialization day center for mentally ill adults, will administer the non-residential component of the study. The River Community, a residential treatment program located in the Angeles National Forest, will administer the residential treatment.
