A 48-year-old man was killed Thursday when he was struck by a tanker truck on Miramar Road, police reported.
The tanker overturned in the 1 a.m. accident and spilled 8,200 gallons of gasoline, forcing the closure of Miramar Road until about 11 a.m.
The incident occurred near Clayton Drive north of the Miramar Naval Air Station, according to San Diego Police Lt. Tom Giaquinto.
Police said James R. Brae of El Cajon had stopped along the curb in a no-parking zone and apparently walked to the rear of his car when he was struck by the eastbound tanker truck driven by Gary Gibbons, 64, of Spring Valley.
Brae, a security guard for Excalibur Security Service was pronounced dead at the scene. Gibbons was treated and released at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
