Compton Police Will Get $1.3 Million as Their Share of Seized Drug Money

Share

More than $1.3 million will be handed over to the Compton Police Department this week as a result of work its officers did on two federal drug trafficking cases.

Under both federal and local laws, assets belonging to drug dealers can be seized, sold, and the money used to help pay for narcotics investigations. In these two cases, the assets of drug dealers were confiscated by the federal Drug Enforcement Agency and a portion of the money is being shared with Compton and other local police agencies that worked on the cases.

Compton’s share of the assets confiscated in one case is $765,940. The other case brings the city $599,000 for a total of $1,364,940. On Thursday, Rep. Mervyn L. Dymally (D-Compton) will present the check to the Police Department in a ceremony in Compton City Hall.
