Reuters
HAMBURG, Germany —
Soviet troops based in what was East Germany will help load ships with German potatoes to make up for a harvest shortfall in their homeland.
About 100 Soviet soldiers will come to the northern port city of Hamburg each day to load six ships with 100,000 tons of potatoes, a harbor authority spokesman said.
Another 500,000 tons will be shipped from Baltic ports in eastern Germany, also with Soviet military help.
