Dinkins’ No-Win Media Battle

Share

The photograph of Mayor David Dinkins overlooking New York City is reminiscent of “The Amazing Colossal Man” or something out of Woody Allen’s “New York Stories.”

However, due to his inability to reduce the city’s large budget deficit or resolve its out-of-control crime problems or make timely decisions, he’s rapidly becoming “The Incredible Shrinking Mayor.”

I think the New York media have been too harsh. Instead of belittling him for his passion for tennis and tuxedos, they should evaluate Dinkins solely on his performance.

True, he may have gotten off to a slow start in combating New York’s problems, but it is only fair to give Dinkins more time to show what he can do. He didn’t create New York’s enormous and seemingly never-ending problems. So he shouldn’t be expected to solve them overnight.
