Oman Cashes In on Ruler’s Birthday

MUSCAT, Oman —
Many of Oman’s 65,000 civil servants cheered, clapped their hands and stamped their feet over the weekend as cash handouts were announced to celebrate Sultan Kaboos ibn Said’s 50th birthday and his 20 years on the throne.
Government workers will receive bonuses of up to three times their monthly salaries, Civil Service Minister Abdul Nabi Macki said.
