An elderly man on a behind-the-wheel driving test crashed into a Department of Motor Vehicles office today, injuring six people and causing $40,000 damage to the building, authorities said.

“A 70-year-old man really flunked the driving test. He ran right into the building,” said police officer Dennis Smith.

The driver of the car wasn’t injured, but about 80 people inside the building, on Sherman Way in Canoga Park, scrambled for safety as the car burst into the office just before 10 a.m. and came to rest 30 feet inside.

Two people were treated at the scene for minor injuries and four were taken to hospitals for examination. None of the injuries was serious.

“He drove through the north wall of the building, through a counter section and into a work area of the building,” said Jean Kolterman, the DMV office manager.
