World IN BRIEF : MYANMAR : Political Arrests, Torture Reported

Amnesty International issued two reports quoting first-person reports of torture, political arrests and extralegal executions in Myanmar, formerly Burma. “Overwhelming evidence of torture and extrajudicial execution on a large scale became available” from those fleeing recent government repression, a 55-page report of the human rights organization said. A four-page report said the military junta continued to arrest political leaders as late as last month.
