Nation IN BRIEF : ALASKA : Volcanic Eruption Likely, Experts Say

Redoubt Volcano has started shaking and steaming “vigorously,” prompting the Alaska Volcano Observatory to warn that the 10,197-foot mountain 110 miles southwest of Anchorage might explode at any time. A team of observers who flew by the percolating mountain said numerous new fumaroles--holes in the mountain from where steam and gases escape--have developed. The fumaroles indicate that things are getting hotter inside the mountain.
