Jack Sterling; Succeeded Arthur Godfrey as Radio Host

Jack Sterling, 75, a longtime New York morning radio host who succeeded Arthur Godfrey. “The Jack Sterling Show,” noted for its relaxed style, ran on WCBS from 1948 to 1966. It was one of the last radio programs to offer live music--a quintet occasionally joined by the host’s drumming. Sterling replaced Godfrey in that time slot when the humorist started his television career. Sterling retired from broadcasting in 1979. In Stuart, Fla., on Oct. 31 of lung cancer.
