Marlon Brando says he blames Los Angeles prosecutors for his 20-year-old daughter Cheyenne’s poor mental and physical condition.

“I hold them directly, not indirectly, responsible for her present mental and physical state,” Brando said in a statement released Wednesday in the Tahitian capital of Papeete. He named Dist. Atty. Ira Reiner and Steven Barshop, a deputy district attorney.

Cheyenne, recovering from what appeared to be a suicide attempt, is a central figure in the murder case against her brother, Christian, 32. He is accused of shooting her boyfriend, 26-year-old Tahitian Dag Drollet, last May during an argument at Brando’s estate.

Brando said Cheyenne could never be a credible witness because of her present and past state. “This case is tearing everyone apart,” the actor said.

Christian’s trial has been indefinitely postponed pending resolution of the prosecution’s request for help in securing Cheyenne’s return to the United States to testify.
