Wal-Mart Stores Inc.: Net income for the third quarter increased 22% to $282.8 million over the same period of 1989. Sales were $7.9 billion. The Bentonville, Ark.-based retailer said “superb customer service efforts” and the execution of merchandising plans and operation disciplines were responsible for the results.
