Daily News to Restructure: The Daily News will lay off 4% of its 1,200-person work force, or about 48 people, Publisher David J. Auger announced. “The Daily News is undergoing restructuring as a result of economic conditions facing newspapers across the country,” he said. “We will continue to review costs.” Through a spokeswoman, Auger declined to elaborate on reasons for the cuts. In addition to the layoffs, the Woodland Hills-based newspaper has also offered voluntary early retirement to some of its employees.
