Daily News strikers wielding clubs and hammers today attacked a truck delivering the newspaper to the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Six persons, including four police officers, were injured.

Seven men were arrested in one of the most violent incidents in the 2-week-old strike.

Port Authority Police identified the arrested as five security guards hired by the Daily News and two strikers.

“It was a full-scale riot,” a Port Authority police officer said. “People were jumping the cops. One of the strikers had an ice pick. It took 40 to 50 police about 20 minutes to restore order.”

The violence broke out at 4:50 a.m. when a News delivery truck pulled up to unload bundles of the tabloid followed by a Daily News car with two security men, a Port Authority Police spokeswoman said. About 50 demonstrators, whom she identified as union strikers, were waiting at the terminal entrance and attacked the driver and security guards, she said.
