WORLD IN BRIEF : ROMANIA : Unionists in Protest on Prices, Economy

Protests against government economic policies and soaring prices spread to the city of Timisoara, but Prime Minister Petre Roman vowed in Bucharest to continue working for a market economy. Five thousand union members staged a noisy anti-government protest in Timisoara, cradle of December’s anti-Communist revolution. They denounced the ruling National Salvation Front and demanded a union role in setting economic policy.
