Nils Rudolph, formerly of East Germany, set a world-best time for the 50-meter butterfly when he was clocked in 24.39 seconds at the first All-German Swimming Championships in Munich.

Rudolph shaved 0.14 of a second off the previous mark set by Matt Biondi of the United States in an event that is not recognized for official world records.
