For the second year in a row, Simi Valley’s Royal High School choir students have been chosen to perform as the honor choir in the annual Disneyland Christmas show.

The 93-member Royal Highlander Chorale will perform with the Disneyland Employee Choir on Dec. 16 in the Anaheim amusement park’s Town Square.

After singing carols, including “The Christmas Song,” the two choirs will be joined by a 1,000-voice choir that will walk with candles down a darkened Main Street.

The 36th annual show will continue with 13 religious songs played by a 45-piece orchestra and readings by actor James Earl Jones.

A total of 137 high school, college and church choirs in the Western United States auditioned to become this year’s honor choir, Royal High choir director Jim Wilber said.

Royal High School’s choir also has performed in the mass choir.

“This is something the students will remember for the rest of their lives,” Wilber said.

Wilber said he believes that the Royal Highlander Chorale is the only high school choir to be chosen as honor choir for two consecutive years, but Disneyland officials were unable to confirm it.

Sophomores, juniors and seniors in the choir will rehearse during the day and spend the evening in the park after their performance.
