Autopsy on Man Who Died in Custody Inconclusive

The autopsy of a Hollywood man, who died after being struck by police officers with nightsticks, did not reveal the cause of death, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said this week.

Toxicological tests are scheduled to be conducted on the body of Tracy Mayberry, 35, who died in police custody shortly after being arrested Nov. 3 for allegedly harassing a family in his neighborhood.

Police were called after Mayberry forced his way into a home in the 400 block of Norton Avenue and allegedly attacked a resident and her son. The arresting officers “formed the opinion that Mayberry was under the influence of an unknown type of narcotic,” police said. The officers were forced to subdue him with their batons when he allegedly resisted arrest, police said.
