Headhunters Bringing Balance to Hollywood

Share

It was refreshing and encouraging to discover “Hollywood Gives Headhunters a Recruiting Role” (Oct. 29). The article noted that Hollywood is slowly joining the mainstream in its corporate casting. There is potential for substantial reductions in the practice of drawing employees primarily from Tinseltown’s inner circle. The best qualified candidate may be called from Memphis or Montana instead of the Polo Lounge or Palm Spring’s putting greens.

The media conglomerates that are acquiring Hollywood are expanding their use of headhunters to fill certain jobs. This allows for more equitable employment opportunities. The issue is not the utilization of headhunters but a balanced executive staff in Hollywood.

There will be losers as a result of increased outside hiring: the famous “mail-room boy” rising to the company presidency, ex-college roommates and beneficiaries of nepotism. So-called Rolodex recruiting is still prominent but no longer the only option.

When the creative openings become more accessible to outside talent, it could lead to a better, reviviscent Hollywood.
