Officials Should Do Their Job

Share

I was still confused about the measures when I voted on Tuesday.

I felt as if I was on the verge of failing a multiple-choice test because I couldn’t get anyone to give me a logical, rational explanation of the contradictory measures.

My husband and I are educated adults who muddled through the ramifications of each measure in order to make our choices.

California’s voters are being shortchanged by lengthy ballots. We are voting on serious issues, only to have portions canceled by other measures. We are passing measures so poorly written that they go unimplemented.

It’s time that our elected officials do their job of writing the measures, instead of allowing equally committed but opposing special interest groups to offer voters conflicting choices.

The measures written by elected officials may not be as encompassing as special interest groups would like, but perhaps voters would have less confusion at the ballot box and serious measures would have more of a chance of realization.
