Landfill Site

Share

As San Diego County residents and taxpayers, we wish to lend our support to the proposed Gregory Canyon landfill. The need for additional landfill area seems apparent and urgent at this time because the San Marcos landfill is nearing capacity.

Gregory Canyon could be sited fast because the private company, Waste Management of California Inc., owns all the land needed for the landfill and buffer area. The county could save millions of taxpayers’ dollars by letting a private company like Waste Management construct and operate the landfill.

Of the three sites under consideration by the county, Gregory Canyon is the most accessible and therefore less costly to those who pay for trash collection. And it impacts the fewest residents.

We believe the Board of Supervisors should continue to evaluate Gregory Canyon as a potential landfill site and should permit Waste Management to own and operate the Gregory Canyon landfill as a private enterprise.
