Fire Damages Car Dealership
A two-alarm fire Saturday morning gutted the showroom of the Security Chevrolet dealership in Vista, causing almost $300,000 in damages, authorities said.
There were no injuries.
The fire apparently began in a faulty fluorescent light fixture on the showroom ceiling, according to the Vista Fire Department.
During the fire, officials said, employees scrambled to move six cars from the burning facility, thus reducing the loss.
Just before the fire broke out, officials said, an employee saw sparks coming from a faulty fixture suspended from the showroom ceiling.
Authorities theorized that fiberglass insulation may have fallen from the underside of the roof and damaged the top of the fluorescent fixture, which then couldn’t dissipate heat.
