‘Devastating’ Effects of Playa Vista Plan

Share

It is a sad commentary on the environmental struggle we all face when the “Foes of Playa Vista Project Become Its Friends” (Times, Oct. 21). The Friends of the Ballona Wetlands have unwittingly become the enemy of the people by agreeing to wholeheartedly support a 33% increase in density of the original project in order to salvage their pet wetland objective.

As The Times has reported, the plans for Playa Vista call for 11,750 residential units, 5 million square feet of office space, 720,000 square feet of retail space, hotels, a marina and more than 25,000 parking spaces. If this project is not eliminated or drastically scaled back, it will have a devastating environmental impact on the surrounding communities.
