Steve Spence of Chambersburg, Pa., won the Columbus, Ohio, Marathon with a personal-best time of 2 hours 12 minutes 16 seconds.

Spence led a group of 28 men in The Athletics Congress national championship race who finished under 2:20 and qualified for the 1992 U.S. Olympic marathon trials, to be held on the same course.

Lisa Kindelan of Beaverton, Ore., was the top female finisher in 2:35:44.
