Huh?: At a National Endowment for the Humanities ceremony Thursday, Vice President Dan Quayle made reference to NEH Chairman Lynne Cheney, who was there, and her husband, Dick Cheney, the secretary of defense. Said Quayle: “Dick and I have something in common. That is that we both overmarried.”

Revealing Move: Actress Jane Fonda and media mogul Ted Turner, who announced their wedding plans last week, wasted no time as they made an in-depth study of lingerie at Frederick’s of Hollywood. They were seen in the famous landmark twice last week, when Fonda picked out a nightie, a cover-up and 14 pairs of shoes. One customer commented on what a beautiful couple they made. The unabashed Turner responded: “I know.”

Gimme: ABC News President Roone Arledge’s plans to buy a swank New York Park Avenue apartment have been blocked by a couple’s claim that he schemed to keep them from buying it first. Lou Elson, 27, and his wife, Sarah, 28, obtained a temporary court order that keeps Arledge from closing the deal. They charged in court papers that Arledge “illegally and unethically” schemed to keep the unit from them because he wanted it for himself. Arledge could not be reached for comment.

Condo Blues: Donald Trump developed another financial problem late last week when the New York state attorney general’s office said he must prove he can cover the monthly costs of the 57-story Upper East Side Trump Palace condominium before any more units are sold. Investors in the project complained that Trump has withheld information about his finances since they contracted to buy condominiums. State law requires condo developers to reveal “material changes” in their finances that could adversely affect people in the building.
