Capturing the Big Picture

Share

When Harold A. Parker, right, photographed a site, he got the whole picture.

The Iowa-born photographer, who moved to Pasadena with his family in 1892, practiced his craft in the family barn until his mother objected because the chemicals spooked the horses. Parker’s photographs are on display at the Pasadena Historical Society, where Kim Haas views a 1910 shot of a Tournament of Roses Assn. chariot race, above.

Parker captured his panoramas with a 1900s Cirkut camera, right. Below, John Muir Technical High School students photographed in 1920. The exhibit, at 470 W. Walnut St., is open Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday from 1-4 p.m. It closes Jan. 6.
