Rosemead : Young Heroes Honored

A young sister and brother whose quick actions saved the life of a 4-year-old girl who fell into their pool last month were honored by the City Council on Tuesday.

Four-year-old Diana Tomatani wandered into the Clark family’s back yard on Oct. 7.

When Cynthia Clark, 10, found the child floating face up in the 4-foot-deep backyard pool, she quickly pulled her out, screamed for help and dialed 911.

Her brother, Phil, 13, used cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques on the child, who was alert and crying by the time paramedics arrived.

“I didn’t think about anything. I just did it,” Phil Clark said. The Clarks stood quietly while Rosemead Mayor Dennis McDonald read resolutions honoring them. They also were presented with a plaque.
