VENTURA : Portion of 3rd Street to Be Renamed

Share

The Ventura Planning Commission approved attorney Peter A. Goldenring’s request to change the name of the street where his office is located, but not necessarily to Nighthawk.

The action Tuesday followed Goldenring’s complaint that his office, one of four mailing addresses on the two-block 3rd Street, was not receiving some of its mail. Instead, letters were going to the better-known 3rd Streets in Oxnard and Santa Paula.

Goldenring liked the name Nighthawk, but at least one neighbor on the Montalvo-area street objected. Myra Jane Horton, who runs Myra Jane’s Preschool at the corner of 3rd Street and Grand Avenue, had fought the request because a telephone book ad included the street name.

However, Goldenring agreed Tuesday night to help pay for changes to the ad, so Horton dropped her objections.

Several commissioners said they would go along with the name change but that they just didn’t like the name Nighthawk, so Goldenring, Horton and city planners will meet to choose a new name from an approved list.
