P.M. BRIEFING : Global Travel System Improved
Europe and America’s largest computerized travel reservation systems have agreed to link their services in a move aimed at making global travel easier, Scandinavian Airlines System said today.
The agreement, signed in Paris, will give the 85,000 U.S. travel agencies subscribing to the Sabre computer system access to the European system Amadeus, SAS reported.
In return, 25,000 Amadeus-associated agencies in Europe will gain access to Sabre.
Amadeus is jointly owned by SAS, Germany’s Deutsche Lufthansa AG, Air France and Spain’s Iberia, and 60% of European air travel reservations are made over the system.
Sabre, owned by Dallas-based AMR Corp., American Airlines parent, has a 42% share of the U.S. market, SAS said.
