CAMARILLO : Hours Extended for Watering Lawns

Share

Camarillo residents now have four more hours a day to water their lawns.

The Camarillo City Council voted at its meeting Wednesday to prohibit lawn watering between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Previously, no such watering was allowed between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Councilman Mike Morgan said the change was prompted by the end of daylight-saving time, which has left some residents complaining that they are forced to water their lawns in the dark.

In May, Camarillo adopted the conservation ordinance, which bans wasting water and watering during daytime hours when water easily evaporates.

Last month, the city issued 46 citations for violations.

The ordinance allows for one warning notice before penalties are imposed. On the second infraction, officials will double the previous month’s water bill, a minimum of about $9.
