The pursuit began about 4:30 a.m. when an auto reported stolen in Carlsbad, north of San Diego, was spotted south of the city by U.S. Border Patrol officers.

CHP officers took over the pursuit northbound on I-15 in San Diego, and up I-805 and I-5 into Los Angeles County.

The pursuit ended about 6 a.m. when the auto stopped in the City of Commerce and several people jumped out and ran across the freeway. CHP spokeswoman Pam Severson said five people were arrested.
