Pipeline Project Gets Final OK: A proposal for 18 companies to import nearly 400 million cubic feet a day of Canadian natural gas through one of the largest pipelines ever built in the Northeast has received final U.S. Energy Department approval. Iroquois Gas Transmission System’s $583-million project will deliver gas to six Northeastern states via a pipeline from the Canadian border through New York and Connecticut to Long Island. The gas could replace 30 million barrels a year of crude oil.
