WORLD : Soviet Tank Rolls in Berlin Lark
A Soviet soldier commandeered a tank and went on a three-hour joy ride through Berlin today, smashing through road blocks and denting cars.
Police said he finally stopped when a Soviet officer jumped on the tank and threw a blanket over the observation slit.
They said the driver was a 20-year-old soldier based just outside Berlin but gave no further details.
The tank careered along the Kurfuerstendamm, West Berlin’s glossy main boulevard, through the working-class Kreuzberg district and out into the countryside before it was brought to a halt.
