Players International, a Calabasas company that operates a club that offers discounts to gamblers at casino resorts, reported a sharp drop in earnings in the latest quarter and six-month period despite increases in revenues.

For the second quarter that ended Sept. 30, the company earned $127,600, down 70% from $423,500 a year earlier. Revenues rose 11% to $4.51 million from $4.07 million.

In the six months that ended in September, Players earned $431,000, an 87% decline from $3.3 million in the same period a year before. Revenues were $8.81 million, a 12% increase from $7.85 million.

The company blamed the lower earnings on costs related to the launching of its phone-in games based on the “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel of Fortune” television game shows, further development of its travel business and obtaining new members.
