LOCAL : Arson Suspected in Fatal Fire
Police suspect arson in a Paramount fire today that killed an infant and a woman thought to be its mother as they slept.
Five other people were hurt but the extent of their injuries was not available, Sheriff’s Deputy Bill Linnemeyer said.
Firefighters were called to the two-story building at 2:48 a.m. A bedroom where the woman and child slept was engulfed in flames when they arrived. Near the bedroom door firefighters found a plastic container partly filled with a liquid believed to be flammable, Linnemeyer said.
“Those in the apartment don’t know where the container came from. They don’t remember seeing it the night before,” he said. A former boyfriend of one of the occupants is being sought for questioning. However, Linnemeyer said, the man is not considered a suspect.
