Peggy Slater, a retired yacht broker who pioneered women’s sailing in Southern California, died of a heart attack in Marina del Rey. Slater, 72, had just arrived for a speaking engagement before the Women’s Sailing Assn. when she collapsed in the parking lot of the Pacific Mariners Yacht Club, the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Dept. reported. A resident of San Pedro, she was well-known as a Transpac competitor and singlehanded cruising sailor.
