Government Says No ‘Spare Tire’ on Oil: The Energy Department predicted that the oil supply shortfall caused by the Persian Gulf crisis will be made up by the end of this month, but it warned that world supplies offer no “spare tire” and prices will remain relatively high. A department official also said there was “no statistical evidence” of oil company profiteering.
