La Verne : Way Clear for Development
The City Council on Monday approved several measures clearing the way for a proposed 186-home development in north La Verne.
The council voted 3 to 1 to approve environmental statements, a zone change and the location of property lines within the proposed project by Lewis Homes of California.
Mayor Pro Tem Thomas R. Harvey dissented, arguing that houses in the development would be too big.
Unresolved is how much Lewis Homes should pay the city for additional firefighters to cover the area. The council asked city staff members to try to reach an agreement with Lewis Homes on this point.
Lewis Homes last year sued the city after officials rejected its plan for a bigger development. However, the company agreed to drop the suit if an agreement on the 186-home project is reached by Jan. 8.
