Covina : No Front-Yard RV Parking

Share

The City Council on Monday refused to amend the zoning code to allow residents to park recreational vehicles in their front yards.

The council voted 4 to 1 to reject the proposal despite arguments from a crowd of about 200 camper, RV and boat owners who said the city was violating their constitutional rights. The only council dissenter, Tom O’Leary, recommended public hearings on the issue.

City law requires owners of RVs, boats, motor homes, campers and trailers in residential areas to park on paved areas at least 25 feet from front property lines and behind a screen no higher than six feet. Parking is also allowed on paved areas in side yards at least three feet from property lines.

The issue came before the City Council after South Albertson Avenue residents Leland and Lillian Bazzo were prohibited in May from parking a 40-foot motor home in their driveway.
