Citizens Panel for Edison Rejected

Share

The Redondo Beach City Council on Tuesday night voted down a plan to create a citizens commission to monitor the controversial Southern California Edison plant, which has been charged with violations of the city’s noise ordinance.

Mayor Brad Parton said he cast the deciding vote against the proposed Redondo Beach Utilities and Cable Television Commission because he thought that it might interfere with the city’s efforts to regulate Edison.

City officials are also opposing plans by the company to store pure ammonia at the plant and to increase the plant’s power output by 16% in a merger with San Diego Gas & Electric Co.

Parton said he and several other Redondo Beach officials have formed a committee that will meet periodically to discuss Edison.
