California IN BRIEF : MILPITAS : Man Held in Rape, Beating of Girl, 10
A 19-year-old San Jose man was behind bars Saturday, accused of raping and beating a 10-year-old Milpitas girl after the two were left alone. In a statement, police said Emilio J. Brotherton was arrested Friday, a few hours after the alleged incidents, in a San Jose trailer. Brotherton was being held at the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of rape, sexual assault on a minor and parole violation. Police spokesman Paul Kiefer said the victim’s parents returned home early Friday to find Brotherton allegedly assaulting the girl. A fight with the girl’s father started but the alleged rapist managed to escape, running naked into the night, police said.
