New Iceberg Rose Has Tendency to Sprawl

Share

Q: After reading that Iceberg was probably the best all-round rose in the landscape, I planted it last spring. It’s growing well but it sprawls all over, and some of its flowers are in the dirt. What’s wrong with my Iceberg?

A: Not a thing. Youthful sprawl is normal for Iceberg. One expert rosarian declared that Iceberg needs a girdle in its first two or three years. Until it matures and develops stronger canes, you should support it with stakes and floral tape or a wire cage or a trellis.
