In 1948, Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger’s The Red Shoes (KTLA Saturday at 5 p.m.) was the monster art-house hit of its day: with its archetypal Svengali-Trilby story, its Hans Christina Anderson-inspired ballet, its sumptuously shimmery and cellophane Hein Heckroth settings, its slightly arch wit, offbeat cast (ballerina Moira Shearer, Anton Walbrook and Robert Helpmann) and wild visual imagination, it enthralled audiences. Today, it enthralls them still.
