So Melbourne, Montreal and Seattle rate as “very good” cities; Los Angeles at least gets a “good.” Why no mention of Orange County?

Our population was not big enough to qualify for the survey, which focused on the world’s 100 largest metro areas. But in a national ranking of 300 cities and suburbs published in September’s Money magazine, Orange County ranked 33rd.

And in the latest edition of “Places Rated Almanac,” Orange County came out as the eighth most livable place in the United States. The good news: We were first in job opportunities among the 333 metropolitan areas ranked. The bad news: We also had the fifth-highest cost of living.
